9:00 am Life
We have made a few changes to our layout for a raised garden. Now to let it sit for a day and see if we change it again.
11:40 am Geocaching
I am now ready to begin looking for geocaches on a more regular basis. There were two new caches just west of Lethbridge that looked like a good place to begin.
I am still learning how to make good use of the various features of my new Garmin Montana 600. I now use the automobile profile to drive to the cache area and then I switch to the geocaching profile to walk to the actual cache site. This works very well. The unit gives excellent voice directions for the driving portion and then the compass display within the geocaching profile gives an accurate reading of distance and direction to the actual cache site.

- GC2XNQX - My home made Brass Cap Cache West. CARL3
This was a straight forward drive to within 10 metres of the cache site. The compass quickly directed me to the base of the appropriate post. I am now taking GeeCee (a ceramic bear) with me on my searches again. I had "lost"her on 2 previous occasions and had stopped that activity since I was clearly not able to keep track of her when geocaching. I decided to try this again, beginning with find #1000.

This was a neat multi-cache. The creator had fashioned his own personal brass cap which had the coordinates stamped on it for the actual location of the container. First one finds the brass cap, then one finds the container. It took a little longer to find the brass cap than it should have as I was standing on it while looking in the nearby vicinity. I continue to learn - when looking for a brass cap first look under your shoes.

Only 998 more "finds" and I will have 2000.
4:00 PM Literature
I am continuing to enjoy Jessica Grant's "Come, Thou Tortoise". My laughing-out-loud has not abated. There is a strong sense of the joy of being a Newfoundlander and of their play with language and wit.
