I can think of 2 priority items for today. One is model trains, the second is shopping for groceries.
I have just had a check of the two GPS dealers in Calgary and the date for the release of the Garmin Montana 650 has been pushed back to July 6. The 600 still seems to be shipping today.
2:00 PM
Another busy day, but not much to report. Grocery shopping was successful. Among other goodies I bought some pork tenderloin, one of which we will have for dinner.
There are now fewer weeds in the front lawn than there were yesterday.
I have also been doing some learning about raised gardens and am almost ready to think about building a few structures.
4:00 PM History
I continue to read "Champlain's Dream". It is a very interesting biography. I have enough of a background to genuinely enjoy this book. I was intrigued with the scholarly debate about his paternity - possibly the king, Henri IV. The early days (i.e. 1500's) there was little interest in France about colonizing the New World. They were too busy fighting wars in Europe and well as the chaos surrounging the Reformation and the Counter Reformation. Even calling France a unified country was a bit of a stretch. I had never even heard of Henri IV, yet this book makes a good case for him being one of the most important rulers in French history.
7:00 PM Cooking
I finally tried one of the recipes in a magazine I bought while in Kingston earlier this year. The recipe was called "Spicy Glazed Pork Tenderloin" and it was a delicious sauce (pineapple juice, limes, brown sugar, molasses, cumin, cayenne). Yum. I worked on this while the green beans amandine and a spinach salad were handled by my better half. Wine was a very nice Pino Gris from South Australia.
I am definitely planning to try a few more recipes from "Skillet Suppers".
