I have finished reading "The Beginning of Infinity". One of the chapters is labelled Optimism. It would make a good title for the book. It is one of the most optimistic views of the future that I have ever seen. Yet the book is really a well-reasoned, but fallible, view of the role of explanation in the creation of knowledge. As a leading theorist on quantum theory and computation his scientific background is impressive. But this is a book about all knowledge, not just scientific.

Definitely a good read, at least for me.
