5:40 am tag: Technology

While reviewing yesterday's web page which included tagged sections for each type of activity I suddenly realized that I did not include images of the books that were involved in the various activities. This raises the question of what I should provide when the same type of activity occurs more than once in the same day.

A few alternatives occur to me:

This looks like a good time for a coffee and some time away from the screen as I develop thumbnails and wireframes for the new website design.

I have played with a number of minor variations on a theme. The essential idea is to have one page per day that describes activities of note. All of the other pages are simply indices that give one access to these pages. I played with the idea of separate pages that provide summary statements for each month and for each type of activity but finally came back to the point that all such summaries are fundamentally part of a particular day's activity.

Here is my chart:

Ths took almost 2 hours and 3 cups of coffee to prepare. There are another 6 sheets of earlier versions now safely tucked away in the garbage. KISS reigns (Keep It Simple, Sir).

All pages will have the same format. There is no need to sketch any wireframes as the design is straight-forward.

It is now light outside. There is a light covering of snow on the trees and lawns, but the roads still appear to be wet rather than icy. Maybe the storm warning is overstated.

Now to try creating a new web page using DW CS5.

This has not been a very productive morning. I have been spinning my wheels trying to create a new page by modifying an existing web page from the Dreamweaver course materials. As near as I can tell, the problems lie with the interaction of various CSS rules, none of which I created originally, and thus am unaware of their effect.

The snow has been falling all morning. It is a wet, heavy fall that may begin bringing down some tree branches if it keeps up. But it is not a storm and should be over in a few hours. The temperature has remained near zero and this will all melt within a day or so.

I am beginning to unravel many of the nuances behind the web pages that are provided by DW.

I now have the place-holders set up in the footer for linking to the previous and next pages.

This is looking pretty good at the moment.
