Comment: This was a continuation of Session 1. The session involved the complete activities for Train #701. This was the Distillery Row Local which began in Coaldale and then headed west, passing through Wild rose, Queenston, Prairie Dog, Pine Ridge, and Distillery Row, ending up at Jasper. |
Session 1i: Train #701 left Coaldale with a small consist of 3 boxcars (CN 524270 - empty, ONT 90075 - empty, CN 475822 - loaded with lumber) and one tank car (UTLX 48693 - empty), plus caboose GTW 77942. The train made 4 circuits around the outer mainline loop at a speed of 10 and then pulled to a halt just outside of Wild Rose. At Wild Rose the locomotive (CN 1706 - a GP-7 diesel) uncoupled from the train and headed into the Wild Rose siding to pick up an empty tank car (AT&SF 100801) from Coop Fuel. This involved an end-around move where first the car was pulled into a siding and then the locomotive went by the car on the adjacent track and pushed the car back onto the train consist. The train then continued west (counter-clockwise) around the outer mainline track for 3 loops (speed 10) before heading into Queenston. At Queenston the train picked up 3 refrigerator cars (HHX 191 - fruit, SRLX 15287 - meat, and SB 105 - empty) plus one stock car (CN 171605 - empty). The train then travelled for 3 circuits on the inner mainline (speed 10) before heading into Prairie Dog. At Prairie Dog the train setout 3 cars: CN 171605 - empty at Angus Stockyard, CN 475822 - lumber at Hillside Lumber, and SRLX 15287 - meat at Prairie Meats. It then picked up 2 empty tank cars (BAOX 635 and UTLX 48238) from Coop Propane. The train did not stop at Pine Ridge, but continued on to Distillery Row where it setout 4 empty tank cars (BAOX 635, UTLX 48238, UTLX 48693 and AT&SF 100801). The train then eased into the Jasper Yard where it set out 3 cars at the 36th St Warehouse (CN 524270 - empty, ONT 90075 - empty, and HHX 191 - fruit) and 1 refrigerator car in the Jasper Yard (SB 105 - empty). |
Comment: This was the first time that I completed a full schedule for a local train. The entire trip took almost exactly 2 hours. One car (SRLX 15287) continued to have trouble staying on the rails and was eventually removed from service. The trucks were tightened and it now seems to be working properly. It was placed back on the layout and is continuing to be part of the schedule. |
