Comment: This was a continuation of Session 1. The plan was to form the consist for Train #600, a Local that will run from Jasper to Coaldale, and then begin the mainline journey.

Session 1f:

Diesel CN 7847 headed into the Jasper Yard with caboose CN 78447 and immediately began forming the consist for Train #600 on Track #2.

The first step was to clear Track #2 and then to setout the caboose on the track. It was a fairly straight set of switching moves to move 3 empty cars that were sitting at the 36th St Warehouse and the Jasper coaling tower onto Track #2. The empty refrigerator car that was beside Parkland Meats was also an easy pickup and setout.

However when I then tried to locate the remaining 4 cars in the Jasper Yard I ran into difficulties. One car was missing. Boxcar CN 493528 was not in the Jasper yard. I eventually found it in the Coaldale Yard where it was part of the Train #700 consist that had yet to be reassembled. I simply brought it over the Jasper Yard using the famous five finger crane.

There was some interesting switching to pickup the 4 cars and put them together on Track #3 (Track #2 was full).

The final step was to pull out the 4 cars on Track #3, reverse onto Track #2 and couple up with the 4 cars plus caboose, and then pull out onto the outer mainline. The first loop around the outer mainline was at a speed of 6 as I wanted to be sure that everything was working before moving up to a speed of 8 for the three remaining loops. The train then pulled to a stop just outside of Black Diamond.

Comment: The conductor from Train #700 received some demerit points for incorrectly picking up boxcar CN 493528 from the Jasper Yard and taking it to Coaldale. I need to pay careful attention to detail! All of the switching moves as well as the mainline run were carried out without any problems. A very good operating session.
