Comment:This is a continuation of my Session 1 activities. Train 601 left Queenston and arrived at Prairie Dog where it carried out some switching maneuvers. It then left Prairie Dog and arrived at Black Diamond.

Session 1c: Train #601 leaves Queenston heading West to Prairie Dog

Locomotive CN 7846 (Alco RS-3) pulling

• CN 210048 reefer
• CN 428453 boxcar
• PNR 1986 boxcar
• CN 475822 boxcar
• CN 475822 boxcar
• CN 485338 boxcar
• CN 74009 caboose.

The Train made 4 complete loops on the inner mainline with a cab speed of 6.

CN 7847 stopped just before entering Prairie Dog, left all the cars on the mainline track, and then entered the town to pick up CCX 0002 (empty) at Dusty Coal & Storage.

The locomotive then joined the cars and took three cars into town, setting them out as follows:

• setout ONT 90075 boxcar (clothing) at Prairie Dog Station
• setout CN 210048 reefer (meat) at Prairie Meats
• setout CN 428453 Boxcar (empty) at Alberta Wheat Pool

CN 7847 then left Prairie Dog with a consist of 6 cars + caboose. It then completed 4 loops on the inner mainline with a cab speed of 8 before heading on to the outer mainline for 4 loops before pulling into Black Diamond.

Comment:

My Model Train operating session was mixed. On the plus side I was able to carry out the switching moves at Prairie Dog (picked up 1 car, setout 3 cars). On the negative side one of the boxcars (CN 475822) consistently derailed near switch 22. The problem is with the car rather than the track as all the other cars had no difficulty at that location. But this was the only place where the boxcar had trouble. Hmm. Nonetheless I spent more time trouble shooting than I did running the train.

I should have removed the coal load from CCX 0002 so it looked empty.
