I have been working on my layout since 10 this morning. In only three hours I have accomplished everything that I had hoped for. Basically there were four distinct activities:
Here are a dozen photos:
Coaldale Yard (note lantern in background)
Prairie Dog (a small prairie town)
Prairie Dog
Black Diamond (coal mine in the mountains)
Leaving Black Diamond and entering Distillery Row (in the foothills)
Distillery Row on the left, entering Prairie Dog on the right
Lone Pine lumber mill in the mountains
Queenston (a small urban center)
my new Saskatchewan cylindrical grain car
Jasper (a small town)

I still have some work to do on the Coaldale Yard. I need to verify that all locomotives and 1950's era rolling stock run smoothly over all sections of the Yard, and then I need to verify the same for the rest of the layout. Once that is complete I should be ready to begin a realistic running of trains on my layout.
In order to add a sense of realism to the distance between the different districts I will run each train from a district onto the outer mainline where it will complete 3 circuits before entering the next district on the timetable.
