A. Morning Musings

7:20 am I do not have access to internet this morning.

B. Actual/Notes

10:00 PM I visited the Friends of Jasper and took out a membership. While there i also bought a new book on the history of the region, "A Hard Road To Travel" (2007) by Peter J. Murphy.

While visiting Maligne Canyon I did see a nest of young Black Swifts. A new lifer. I saw numerous Clark's Nutcrackers at Maligne Lake, but did not see a Harlequin duck on the upper Maligne River. While watching a bird feeder in Jasper I identified a Pine Siskin (lifer). Reviewing my photos later I was able to identify a female Purple Finch (another lifer).While at the Cottonwoood creek ponds, I am sure I saw a Common Redpoll. I did not get a photo but I watched it closely through my binoculars. The red patch on its head was very noticeable. It flew out of the grass in front of me and landed in a small spruce tree where I watched it for about a minute before it flew away. Although my bird watching was a series of short stops, I did manage to see 4 new lifers in one day (Black Swift, Pine Siskin, Purple Finch, Common Redpoll). Fantastic. Our Canadian total now stands at 140.
