Birding Notes

May 30 6:30 PM We went birding at the nearby Par 3 area this afternoon from 11:20 am until about 2 PM.

The first bird that I was able to get a photo of turned out to be a House Wren, which was a new lifer for us.

I watched the following bird fly just above the surface of the water for almost the length of the slough to land on some reeds across the slough from me. My camera was able to provide an image that allowed me to identify it as a Spotted Sandpiper.

Here is a photo of a Gray Catbird. I remember first seeing (and hearing) this bird in the same area a few years ago (before I began keeping records) when I was with Larry and Mary Ann. But this counts as a lifer as it is the first time I have recorded the observation.

Now for another lifer, the Yellow Warbler.

And here is a photo of the bird that we listened to for almost 10 minutes, Canadian lifer #145, a Brown Thrasher.

Here is a table summarizing the two day's observations.

SUMMARY of the session: We went on this trip simply to get some fresh air as it was the first sunny day in over a week. Much to our surprise, and delight, we ended up seeing 4 new lifers! We also brought our total for Canadian birds in 2007 to over a hundred (104 and counting). We were surprised to not see any Canada Geese, especially since we saw over 20 in this area a few weeks ago.
