5:50 am It is +8 C at the moment with a forecast high of +17 C

CBC Headline: Tests Find Rat Poisin In Recalled Pet Food

The head of an Ontario-based pet food company says he has no idea how the poison got into the food and that they still have a lot of work to do. There are rumors that it may be due to wheat that had been imported from China. What caught my eye was that this company is importing wheat from China. I am surprised. I would have thought it would be too expensive to do that given that Canada produces wheat for export. The network of corporate transactions defies belief.

Australian Headline: (from The Australian): Hostage Fears Over British Troops Seized By Iran

Iran had seized 15 British navy personnel, claiming that they strayed into Iran territorial waters "illegally". There is speculation that they may be used as hostages in the increasingly difficult negotiations about Iran's nuclear program.

My weight is steady at 188.

C. Actual/Note

6:10 am I am vascillating this morning between doing some mathematics and converting a couple of LPs to MP3. I will begin with the LP task, but will leave the mathematics item as a possibility for later today.

11:50 am Here are two more photos showing the beginning of the spring activity of the May tree in our backyard.

9:15 PM I converted 3 LPs to MP3 files in iTunes this morning. Two big band records (Billy Vaughn and Paul Mauriat) plus one folk record (Peter, Paul & Mary). I am beginning to feel comfortable with the cell phone. I have text messaging under control as well as speed dialing. I decided to push myself a bit and did two loops into (and out of ) the coulee this afternoon. I am a bit stiff at the moment, but it felt good at the time. I now have the time for such walks. That is a real luxury. I also saw a Ring-necked Pheasant while walking toward the university - the first I have ever seen on these coulee walks. I also settled in and read about a third of Rudy Wiebe's memoirs of growing up in rural Saskatchewan in the 1930's and '40's. His words just flow off the page.
