Birding Notes

7:30 am May 11 I have reviewed and labelled my iPhotos for February 25. This entry will chronicle the birdwatching activities.

The morning was spent scanning the shore near our unit. Laughing Gulls were plentiful, as were Royal Terns. This also gave us an opportunity to practice identifying shorebirds.

Hmmm. Two Semi-palmated Plovers and five Snowy Plovers (I think).

The following bird then alighted on a nearby structure:

I have a lot of difficulty identifying the nondescripts. Maybe the field guide will help.

Sometimes it is nice to have no doubt about the birds: A Brown Pelican and a Double-crested Cormorant.

Later that morning we went for a drive along the west shoreline of the Yucatan peninsula. At one point we watched a large flock of Forster's Terns fly overhead.

Here they come again, just skimming the water.

Here is a table summarizing the day's observations.
