6:40 am We were all up early as we had an hour's drive to Dzilam de Bravo where we hoped to find a local cooperative that is known for giving boat tours of the nearby nature reserve. We all had our binoculars ready as we left our unit for our first day of "professional bird watching".

SUMMARY of the session: We saw a total of 11 new birds, 9 of which were lifers. For me, the two highlights were the Roseate Spoonbill and the Vermiliton Flycatcher.
