Congratulations to Andrea whose NSERC was upgraded to an Alexander Graham Bell CGSD award!

The Wetmore group participated in the 2nd Annual Chinook Poster Symposium held at the University of Lethbridge where 8 posters from the group were presented. A special congratulations go to Jenn for winning first place in the Chemistry Graduate Student Division and Jenny for winning second place in the Chemistry Undergraduate Student Division.

 

Congratulations to Lesley and Andrea for being awarded Queen Elizabeth PhD Entrance Scholarships.

 

The group welcomes Terri Peterson, who is completing an Independent Studies in the lab this semester.

  The Wetmore group attends the CSC conference with one oral presentation, four gradute student poster presentations and two undergraduate student poster competitions.

  Andrea's first publication from her MSc work in collaboration with R. Mandervilles group (University of Guelph) was accepted for publication in Journal of Physical Chemistry
January The group welcomes Lex Navarro-Whyte, who will be completing an Independent Studies project.
  Lesley and Holly's study of the stacking interacitons of alkylated bases with the aromatic amino acids was accepted for publication in Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys.
   
2007
October Congratulations go to Andrea for winnng the first place price for the Graduate Chemistry competition and Jenn for winning the second place price for the Undergruate Chemistry competition at the Chinook Poster Competition. The group also congratlates Jenny who won the second place price for the Undergraduate Biochemistry competition for work performed with Dr Kothe.
  The Wetmore group was out in full force at the first annual Chinook Poster Competition held on October 5th, where 7 poster presentations were made by our group.

August Stacey attends the Canadian Theoretical Chemistry Symposium (CTCS) 2007 in St. John's NFLD.
June Congratulation to Lesley for publishing her first paper at the University of Lethbridge.
May Stacey, Andrea, Jenn, Ken, and Lesley attend the CSC 2007 conference in Winnipeg. Stacey and Lesley give oral presentations, while Andrea, Jenn and Ken present posters.
May Congratulations to Jenn and Ken for winning awards at the CSC 2007 conference! Jenn won the first prize in the undergraduate poster competition for the Physical/Theoretical Division, while Ken won first prize in the corresponding Graduate Student division.
May The group welcomes Adi Chhikara as a new MSc graduate student. Adi joins the group from Thompson Rivers University (Kamloops).
May The group welcomes Holly Durst, Stephanie Jones and Linda Lait to the group as undergraduate summer researchers. Stephanie is completing an Independent Studies project, while Linda is completing a co-op work term.
April Congratulations to Andrea and Lesley for receiving AIF scholarships!! These are very prestigious scholarships that come complete with travel grants.

February With lots of thanks to the Information Technology department, the group's high-performance computing cluster, called URACIL (for an Up-Scale and Robust Abacus for Chemistry In Lethbridge), is up and running for chemistry research.
January Lesley Rutledge joins the group as a MSc Graduate Student. Lesley holds a prestigious NSERC CGS award and has previous experience in Computational Chemistry.
January The group welcomes Jenn and Brent as undergraduate researchers. Jenn is completing an Honours research project, which will continue into the summer, and Brent is completing an Independent Studies project.
   
2006
June 30 Andrea, Ken and Stacey pack up to travel across the country to Lethbridge. Ken will start his PhD and Andrea her MSc in the Wetmore group in September.
May 27 Andrea, Ken and Stacey attend the CSC2006 meeting in Halifax. We were very happy to see many alumni from the Wetmore lab who have gone on to Computational Chemistry including Sarah, Shenna and Katie, as well as MTA alumni who are good friends of the lab (Nicole).
May 15 Andrea, Lesley, Meghan, and Morgan walk across the stage in Convocation Hall. We wish them the best of luck in the years ahead!!
May Stacey visits Dalhousie University and gives a talk about research in the Wetmore group at MTA.
April Andrea, Meghan and Morgan start summer research with a new twist this year - there is no need for an Introduction to Computational Chemsitry workshop this year!!

January Stacey announces that the group is moving to the University of Lethbridge in July!!! We are excited to join the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry!!

August 24-26 Mallory and Stacey attend YEC graduation. Congratulations Mallory!
August 12-14 Wetmore group organizes and hosts the first Atlantic Theoretical Chemistry Symposium since 1993! Congratulations to all group members for presenting outstanding talks!!
June 27 Mallory graduates from Moncton High School, and won three scholarships/awards at graduation. Congrats Mallory!!!
June 27 and 28 Mallory and Stacey attend YEC Orientation in Halifax.
June 20 Mallory Mayes joins the group as the MTA YEC Summer Intern.
May Sarah has won the female athelete of the year for Nova Scotia, as well as other group awards, for rope skipping. Congrats Sarah!!
May 12 - 14 Meghan and Lesley attend the APICS ChemCon2005 in Newfoundland. They did the group proud by winning the first and second place CIC Chemical Trust Fund E. Gordon Young Award for Best Physical/Theoretical Undergraduate Poster Presentation.
May 11 Two new computers are brought on-line in the Wetmore lab. Welcome to Rob and Erwin!!
May 9 Laura and Craig graduate. We wish them the best of luck in the future.
May 2 First day of summer research for 2005. Welcome to Sarah, Lachlan and Andrea!!
April 24 Meghan flies to the US to learn about fleximers and the Insight program from our friends at the University of Maryland in Baltimore.
April 12 Shenna's paper on modified purines with the potential to act as universal nucleobases is accepted in to Chemical Physics Letters.
March 21 Lesley, Meghan and Tom receive NSERC summer undergraduate research awards for 2005. Congrats!!
March 21 Craig Wheaton receives an NSERC graduate award to attend the University of Western Ontario. Congrats!!
January 24 The group welcome's Kristian Strickland as the new cluster system administrator.

July 13 Sarah's work on Uracil Derivatives is accepted for publication in the Journal of Physical Chemistry.
July 10-14 Dr. Wetmore attend the CSTC (Canadian Symposium on Theoretical Chemistry) in St. Adele, Quebec.
May 28-June 2 Dr. Wetmore, Shenna and Sarah attend the annual CSC conference in London, Ontario. Congratulations to Sarah for winning a prize for the Best Physical/Theoretical presentation in the Undergraduate poster competition!!
May 25 The group receives funding from the Research Corporation.
May 17 Sarah Whittleton won the 2nd Place for the Bio/Medicinal Division in the Oral Presentation Competition and Shenna LaPointe won the 2nd Place for the Physical/Theoretical Division in the Poster Presentation Competition at the APICS/CIC Student Chemistry Conference (ChemCon2004) hosted by Saint Mary's University. Congratulations!!
May 8 The Computational Chemistry Centre (a.k.a. "the Wetmore lab") is officially opened.
May 3 The group welcomes new summer research assistants: Laura, Lesley, Meghan, Morgan and Tom.
April 26 Kali's paper on C4' sugar radicals appears in Chemical Physics Letters.
