The Canadian Society for Dance Studies is a support and advocacy group for anyone who studies or works in the field of Canadian dance studies. Dance studies encompasses a broad range of research areas including history, anthropology, movement analysis, ethnology, creative process studies, dance education, dance writing and criticism, among others. The Canadian Society for Dance Studies encourages and promotes research and writing in Canadian dance studies, and provides a forum for dance researchers to discuss their work with each other.

To submit a proposal, please send a 250-word abstract (or 500-word abstract for panels and roundtables) to Dena Davida at by December 10th, 2011. Abstracts should demonstrate a clear subject of research and a coherent argument, and a working bibliography. Please do not include your name on the abstract page itself, as these papers will be blind-juried.

New Board of Directors of the CSDS/SCED I am pleased to announce, with no other nominations or objections, that the new Board of Directors for the Society is acclaimed as:

Board members will sit for two or three years (to be decided at the first Board meeting) and the Board will elect a President to sit for four years (all Board members have the possibility of re-election). I will act as Director of the Society for three years.
I would like to publicly thank the Transitional Board of Lisa Doolittle, Dena Davida, Carolyne Clare, and Kristin Harris Walsh for preparing the By-laws for the Society and helping with the incorporation process. We should be officially incorporated as the Canadian Society for Dance Studies/La société canadienne d'études de danse in 2012

New Director Selected to Lead The Canadian Society for Dance Studies/La société canadienne d’études en danse (CSDS/SCED) Toronto writer and teacher Kate Cornell is the incoming director of the Canadian Society Dance Studies/La société canadienne d’études en danse (CSDS/SCED). The Society's membership at large met in Toronto on June 23rd to talk about the organization's future following founder/director Amy Bowring's announcement that she would step down after a decade of leadership. Dear Members, The Canadian Society for Dance Studies/ La société canadienne d’études en danse (note the new name) is looking for new members. The Transitional Board, along with the Membership Committee, have endorsed a "Plus ONE Campaign." We are challenging each of you to bring just one more member to the Society.
Remember Society membership is still pay-what-you-can ($20 suggested for students, $40 suggested for professionals). New memberships will last the rest of 2011 AND all of 2012.
The Call for Papers for our Collaborations conference in Montreal next June is being translated and will be posted soon.
