Chemistry 3730 assignment 2

Due: Wednesday, Sept. 17, 10:00 a.m.

Calculate the probability that a particle in a box will be found between L/10 and L/5 for the following values of the quantum number n: 4, 8, 32, 128, 512. If you are writing out your solutions by hand, give your answer to four decimal places. If you submit a printout, make sure that your answers (in floating-point form) are clearly marked. What value would this probability approach as tex2html_wrap_inline20 ?

Hints:

  1. L/5 - L/10 = L/10.
  2. The Maple command for taking limits is limit. If you want to take the limit as tex2html_wrap_inline20 of some function f(n), you would type limit(f(n),n=infinity);
