The Stage
That Made Us is a
full-length play commissioned by the Empress Theatre, Fort
MacLeod Alberta, in celebration of the theatre’s 100th
anniversary. The play will premiere at the Empress on June
29, 2012, exactly 100 years to the day from when the
Empress first opened its doors in 1912.
The Stage
That Made Us is a fictional
story that incorporates some of the real history of the
Empress and Fort Macleod from the period 1912 up to around
1936. It’s about a couple of kids—a cowboy drifter and
Opera affectionado—who meet and fall in love at the
Empress, and how the theatre and their lives influence one
another over the next twenty-five years.
The play features comedy, music, wrestling, and vaudeville.
