Research |

|
|
Kevin's research concentrates on the Bronze and Iron Ages of the
Near East/ Eastern Mediterranean.
A particular research focus of Kevin's is the development of techniques
for integrating textual and archaeological materials.
As a case study, Kevin has focused on the Syrian site of Ugarit,
in order to better understand the Late Bronze Age economic activities.
Kevin's
research attempts to be multi-disciplinary and cross-cultural. He
is particularly interested in promoting and facilitating the study
of antiquity from a world history perspective.
Kevin has recently
begun an examination of Nineteenth Century Near Eastern Studies.
He is particularly concerned with how the ancient Near East was
used as a vehicle to discuss Victorian social and political issues.
Kevin will also investigate how particular trends in Victorian intellectual
history and popular culture manifested in the study of the Near
East.
Kevin is particularly interested in communicating archaeological
and historical information to the public, especially through:
public lectures to non-specialists
using
the internet to allow interested lay-people to communicate directly
with academics
teaching
critical thinking about archaeology and history
writing
in popular media
participating
in the creation of educational resources for teachers
communicating
ideas about teaching and public outreach to other academics
