Watercolour Projects

From 1946 to 1992, the Cold War Atomic Testing Program systematically subjected vast numbers of animals to nuclear and chemical weapons testing. Watercolour studies depict a selection of animal species used by various Governments to establish the injurious effects of weapons of mass destruction. The series also includes renderings of structures and clothing used to contain the animals, as well as images that suggest the effects of radioactive and chemical fallout including contamination, mutation and disease.
