Presidents Message

Lethbridge Students for Life is an on-campus advocacy group with several goals. We aim to inform and educate the university community on life issues such as abortion and euthanasia, and direct the public to pro-life resources including crisis pregnancy and post abortion centers. LSL has been a ratified club for several years now, and has established itself through a variety of information events, presentations, debates, and advocacy on campus. Have a look through our photo gallery to see what our members have been up to in recent years!

If you are concerned about life issues or want to learn more about them, LSL is a great place to start. We hold a variety of activities on campus to promote learning and discussion about life issues, a challenging but rewarding way to become involved. Considering that the majority of abortions are performed on women in the eighteen to mid-twenties age bracket, it is likely that a university student will be affected by abortion either personally or through peers and relatives at some point. Being informed about the procedure and understanding the effects on everyone involved is essential.

-Nearly 300 abortions are performed every day in Canada.

-Abortion terminates the life of a human being.

-Abortion not only terminates life, it has adverse physical and emotional effects on women and men involved, and has been linked to breast cancer, eating disorders, depression, and suicide.

Recent political movement has introduced the idea of legalizing euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide in Canada. The risk for the elderly, terminally ill, and disabled citizens is that their lives will not be deemed as valuable as those of healthy citizens. As a result they will be the first to feel pressure to end their life. Advice from the healthcare profession reasons that these people need proper care and pain management rather than physicians who will terminate their life. Advocates call for a right to choose euthanasia, when even in our country, the choice would be unbalanced; there is a great disparity between regions and provinces when it comes to quality end-of-life care. Euthanasia seems to present another front in the disregard for human life. Information and advocacy will be crucial to prevent its legalization.

These issues are just some of the life advocacy LSL takes part in. Look for us around the university, or contact us from the website to get involved. Our club welcomes new members every year-meet some great people, take part in our activities, and help us promote the value of life!
