My general research focus
is the role of physical activity
in successful aging. Specifically,
I am interested in aging
and hormonal responsesto
exercise such as the influence
of age on endogenous anabolic
hormone levels, anabolic hormone
responses to different types
of exercise,
and the role of anabolic hormone
levels in successful aging.
Other interests include the
measurement of physical activity
behaviour, using both self-report
tools and direct measurement
tools such as accelerometers
and pedometers.
Through collaboration with colleagues I have been involved in several other projects outside my main area of research. Most recently I was a co-investigator on two projects which measured fitness and physical activity in Old-Order Mennonite and Amish children in Southwestern Ontario. The objective of these innovative projects were to study the behaviours of those who adopt lifestyles somewhat representative of several generations ago, when current health concerns of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease were much reduced.
