Teaching

Biochemistry 3300
Bioenergetics and Metabolism
Chemistry of the carbohydrates and lipids and the metabolism of these and other cellular constituents and nutrients. Energy transductions associated with catabolism and synthesis; biological control mechanisms and other physiological processes of current interest.

Biochemistry 3580
Synthetic Biochemistry - iGEM
The term “synthetic” biochemistry / biology has long been used to describe an approach to biochemistry/biology that attempts to integrate (or "synthesize") different areas of research in order to create a more holistic understanding of life.
More recently the term has been used in a different way, signaling a new area of research that combines science and engineering in order to design and build ("synthesize") novel biological functions and systems.
The course will deal with the term mainly in its latter meaning.

Biochemistry 4200
Proteins and Nucleic Acids
The biochemistry of proteins and nucleic acids including protein-ligand and protein-protein interactions; membrane proteins, enzyme mechanisms, and modification of gene expression. Laboratory projects will involve the purification and characterization of enzymes and DNA.

Biochemistry 5990
Pre-Steady State Kinetics
Introduction into pre-steady-state analysis of enzyme catalysis.

BChm 5990 Fall 2007
