I am a Professor in the Psychology Department at the University of Lethbridge, a phonetician and a developmental psychologist conducting research on child speech development. Born and raised in Northeast China, I received my B.A. degee from the Department of English Literature and Linguistics of Beijing University in China, and my Ph.D degree in Linguistics from the Ohio State University in the United States. My research interests include sensorimotor development of speech sounds in preschool-aged children speaking different languages. I am also interested in gendered speech, its acoustics and acquisition in languages such as Mandarin Chinese. Right now, I am expanding my research program to bilingual children's speech development by studying English-French and English-Chinese bilinguals in Alberta, Canada. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of my research, I colloaborate intensely with linguists, speech scientists and computer scientists.
