Postdoctoral Position - Starting July 2003

Topic: Synthesis of Unsaturated Main Group and Organometallic Compounds

Join a dynamic small research group involved in leading-edge research!  The focus of the work will be the synthesis of unsaturated main group and organometallic compounds.
A recent Ph.D. in Inorganic, Organic or Organometallic chemistry with experience working under anaerobic conditions is essential.  Additional experience in Electrochemistry, NMR and EPR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography or Computational Chemistry will be an advantage.  One component of this position involves collaboration with an innovative Canadian high tech company.  The successful applicant will be required to agree to a non-disclosure agreement on collaborative work.  This aspect of the work has the possibility of being expanded to an NSERC Industrial PDF position for candidates who meet the requirements of that program.  For more details please visit the NSERC site.  A permanent position in industry is thus a long-term possible outcome from the collaboration.

Applicants must be able to work independently and are expected to show initiative in solving problems. Good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills are essential, including the ability to use the chemical literature and the necessary electronic databases.

The appointment will be made for one year, renewable for a second year. The starting salary will be CAN$32,000-34,000 per annum plus minor fringe benefits.
Interested applicants should send curriculum vitae with covering letter to Prof. Boeré as soon as possible.  Short-listed applicants will be contacted to supply at least two letters of reference (including one from the Ph.D. thesis supervisor).
