Biology and Evolution of Language

Perhaps the defining feature that makes us human is our mastery of language. Without language going to the moon, creating the computer chip and civilization itself is out of reach. The evolution of language is an interdiscplinary area of research concerned with the biological aspects of language and how it evolved (or co-evolved). Since the soft tissues of language production, such as the larynx, do not fossilize we must use the living of fossils of today which includes ourselves and other species of primates that share relatively recent common ancestry.
