Field Schools

Study Abroad in Ecuador

This program combines anthropological analysis with ethnographic writing and Spanish language training through study abroad in Ecuador and is centered on the themes of race and ethnicity in the northern Andean region.  This is a joint venture between the University of Lethbridge and the Centre for Interamerican Studies in Ecuador.  This is offered every other year.

Study Program in Korea

An almost all-expense paid program offered by the International Centre for Students at the University of Lethbridge and the Asian International Program that is designed for students who want to learn basic Korean language and culture.

Ethnographic Field Methods in Highland Guatemala

An intensive three-week field school in ethnographic methods, led by Dr. Walter Little of The University of Albany, is based in Antigua and Tecpán, Guatemala and runs from July 2 to July 22, 2006. The course will provide advanced undergraduates and graduate students with instruction in ethnographic research methods.

Oxlajuj Aj: Kaqchikel Mayan Summer Program in Guatemala

An intensive 6 week field school in Guatemala that offers training in the Mayan language of  Kaqchikel and cultural experience in Kaqchikel communities.  This program is led by Dr. Walter Little of the University of Albany and Dr. Judith M. Maxwell of Tulane University.

 Kenya Summer Program

This field school is also offered by James Madison University and offers students an opportunity to learn about Kenya through first-hand experience.  The course for 2006 is led by Dr. Liam Buckley and includes guest Kenyan lecturers.

This ethnographic field school in Russia is offered by the Evergreen State College and the University of British Colombia.
