live archive
audio installations
2009

Created during an IN SITU residency at AXEnéo7 gallery, live archive encompassed a <live> audio installation employing a low watt FM transmitter, a multi-channel <archive> installation of localized recordings made during the residency in the Gatineau area, and an exhibition of drawings and related research materials. Globally, the project allowed a sustained sensory exploration of the lived environment of Gatineau (formerly Hull).

(im)permeable
audio installation
2008

A very portable and adaptable live audio installation developed for The New Gallery, Calgary, in their temporary location in a shopping arcade. Tiny speakers stitched into the upholstered linings of four overcoats played live audio from the mall space. The installation resembled a minimal boutique display, gently confusing art and commerce, and pointing to a predominantly feminine presence in the mall.

the outside of sound consists of two textile panels with embedded arrays of small speakers, on which two unique montages of sound are audible. Acting as minimal paintings, the outside of sound invites viewers to engage tactilely and aurally in deciphering the work. Textiles, bleach, whitewash, audio components. Each panel 60 x 60 in. installation: Jacquard textiles, wood, sound element
2005

le moindre bruit (listening to the fashion plaza) is a reflection on the fashion plaza, an aging textile manufacturing building in Montreal , as a constructed and lived environment. What would happen if we were to listen to our buildings? These sounds suggest an accumulation, not unlike the accumulation of small quotidian gestures that make up an experience of time and place, and contribute to our sense of location and belonging. Noisy Room/Chambre bruyante was created for 48 rooms/ 48 hours, an installation event in a former rooming house in Montreal slated for condominium development. A montage of sounds from the surrounding urban environment engulfed the visitor. A scrim over the windows blurred the sense of sight, making the aural experience even more acute.

Gardens /jardins was a sound installation created at Galerie La Centrale in Montreal , presenting three textile enclosures that are body sized, but cannot be physically entered. Wax-covered decorative objects are arrayed within in the gardens, and three sound montages evoke the imaginative life of the objects, and their cultural trajectories as images, partly real and partly fictional.

Doors is an installation in three parts, three covered panels which lean against the walls. Each has a peculiar sound element which emerges from behind it. The panels are human body size. They look very minimal, but the sound makes them strangely friendly and enigmatic. (Exhibition at Galerie Optica Montreal )
